For those concerned about the impossibility of this, Chris (uploader) has written the following on his website (in description): ...Air will not *actually* enter the body from the outside, but visualizing this taking place is helpful in achieving the end result. Edward [the man speaking in this video] said, "It is important to concentrate on the inhalation of sound, not breath." Now, in the video, Edward talks of this inhalation as if it is actually happening. It’s a helpful way to visualize what is happening. But even he, himself, said that visualization is used to achieve certain ends in singing. Lamperti was even more direct: "Always remember that what goes on above the throat are illusions, no matter how real they may feel or sound."

I mean I feel like I get what he’s saying. To me he is explaining singing into the mask. You direct the air into the nasal passages. Your soft palate lowers a little and you get the resonance up and into the nose . I also sick my air the ping on the soft palate but also behind it and into the mask area. I guess you can say it’s like your inhaling because the air isn’t only being directed out rn mouth . Yeah if I were to put my hand infront of my mouth there isn’t much air compared to the volume etc. For me the air feels like it’s directed back, behind and up then forward, all at once. In other words it’s going up behind the soft palate and partly into the nose. It creates the brighter tone as opposed to a darker totally raised soft palate tone with zero nasal cavity airflow. I just think he’s describing it in a way that seems impossible. Though apparently someone in the comments claimed to be a student of his or someone else and that bel canto singers can literally sing for minutes off of one stream of breath? Certainly though if you direct your air to the hard palate around your teeth the sound is brash and clumsy but up into the nasal passage it’s a smoother. I’m assuming this is what he means. And the higher the notes the more it feels like the air is Straight up the back of my mouth and just towards the ceiling. Sometimes it’s like I’m singing back intone back of my mouth. And the more back I go the louder I get actually.

1. when we run out of breath , the body automatically pulls air out of the atmosphere in to the lungs 2. But dont run out if possible and pull short amount of air from time to time; keep lungs refueled with the fresh air you just took with the air taken before 3. vocals are best when performed with average air capacity. if you inhale a lot , it will put strain on everything

I really wonder if his voice is tenor as the tamber of his speaking voice is definitely baritone. It would have been helpful to hear him sing something to demonstrate his "bel canto" technique. It all sounds good and logical but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. His ill sitting toupet was also a distraction.

The 10 min mark is so critical along all the other info Ed is sharing. For those who are Canadian, he taught Gil Moore from Triumph and Brian Volmer from Helix and if you watch Helix videos of last year in concert, Brian still nails it because of this teacher. Ed saved Brian's career and I've followed Ed's videos and helped in my songwriting and recordings of Planet COOL! ...thanks for putting this on RUclips...

Thank you very much for the very useful singing tutorial video! This is the one I would like to learn. I wish I could get a sining trainer like him in Germany! It is very difficult to find such an excellent teacher who knows the mechanics and let the best singing voice of the learners!!

Pure pseudoscientific charlatanry. Nothing he says about resonance is true. First, during a well produced sound, the raised soft palate closes the passage to the nasal cavities and prevents the sound from travelling there. If it doesn't close the passage correctly, THE SOUND WILL BE NASAL. Second, sinuses make NO AMPLIFICATION, it's just a PROPRIOCEPTIVE phenomenon with no consequences in resonance. The sinuses, which by the way are full of mucose and close to soft tissues (closer to the brain mass than to the larynx), are isolated from the sound and cannot change their shape, so they cannot be efficient as resonators. It's something already known from the mid 20th century, you only have to read Vennard, Sundberg and later Ingo Titze, etc. In experiments conducted in the 40s, blindfolded listeners couldn't distinguish between the voice produced by the same person with and without their sinuses partially filled with water. It's just a proprioceptive matter. And concerning falsetto, my God, that's preposterous. Falsetto is just the sound produced without the participation of thyroarytenoid muscles. then controlled mainly by the participation of cricothyroid muscles and the other usual muscles used to close the glottis. The fact that you FEEL the sound somewhere doesn't mean it resounds and is amplified there. 95% of the sound is amplified IN THE PHARYNX. It's always the same, these people always start telling very interesting things, but the moment they start talking about accoustics, they always make use of pseudoscientific chitchat which can help no one sing better. What a shame.

I wasn't going to watch this video but did and the technique is amazing i get it. I could've watched 100 more videos and still not know about this.

Inhalation of the voice means bringing Larynx in "right" position. Try to sing a very deep in the throat sitting "iiiiiii" , like in deep. Now try a, e, i, o, u, to sing on the same place where your iiiiii ist sitting. Try it two or three years. One day the voice finds the right way. Try!!

I can hold a note for 50 seconds with inalare la voce done properly.

Question... Don't countertenors use falsetto?
